  • Lag Screw, Hex Head

Manufactured to be extremely sturdy, lag screws are some of the toughest fasteners. They are used to attach objects to wood and anchor masonry. Common applications include retaining walls, deck frames, and wooden beam outdoor play equipment. For masonry application, use the screw in conjunction with a lag shield. Lag screws have coarse threads designed for pre-drilled holes to prevent splitting or snapping, and require minimal clearance above the fastener. The hexagonal drive allows for simple installation and controlled traction with a socket or wrench.

For corrosion resistance, lag screws are available as Zinc plated, Hot Dipped Galvanized (HDG), and Stainless Steel.

  • Carriage Bolts

Carriage bolts have a smooth rounded head with a square neck underneath that locks into wood to prevent spinning when tightened. Use with a pre-drilled hole and secure with a hex nut and washer. They are great fasteners for decks, play equipment, docks, fencing, and furniture.
The unique design is great for connections where the head is not accessible for tightening. The self-locking square neck and coarse threads fasten very securely.
All carriage bolts we stock have coarse threading as a standard.

  • Wood Screws

Wood screws are made to join two pieces of wood together and securely hold them. There are many styles of wood screws available today, from various driver tools to what material the wood screw is made from.

  • Button Head Socket Cap Screw

The button head version of socket cap screws are commonly used for removable panels, machine parts, die fixturing, and clamping. The socket head enables driving where there is not sufficient space for wrenches or sockets. The button head offers a wider bearing surface and high tensile strength, but offers lower profile than standard socket cap screws.
Button Head socket cap screws are available as an alloy with black oxide finish, or as stainless steel.

  • Wing Nuts

Wing nuts are a type of specialty nut with a pair of wings to enable it to tighten without tools. The wings provide a grip for the thumb and finger for turning. They are commonly used where frequent adjustments or removals are needed, and can be made quickly at a later stage.
An alternative form of the wing nut has a washer built in, and is used to storm-proof the windows of a building. This washer face allows the wing nut to be used to secure plywood onto fixed anchors, where the hole in the plywood will be larger than the anchor studs it and the wing nut are being mounted on. This provides the advantage of having a larger surface bearing the pressure, while also eliminating the need of a separate washer that will often fall and get lost during storm-prep installation.

  • Square Plate Washer

Square plate washers are made from low carbon steel and have a larger surface area than round washers. Since they develop more friction when tightened against wood, they are often found in timber construction.
Often, square plate washers are used to attach treated lumber sill plates to concrete foundations. Another common use is using square plate washers to attach wood beams to the walls of a garage, and them mount the garage door rails and equipment.
