UPDATE: Lee County Community Development – IRMA

FORT MYERS, FL (September 13, 2017) – Hurricane Irma has left many homes and businesses in the City of Fort Myers in need of repair.  In order to expedite the rebuilding process, the Building Division of the City of Fort Myers’ Community Development Department will open a satellite office to process accelerated permit requests for those impacted by the emergency.

City Building Division staff will be on hand to expedite out-the-door permits at the Dr. Ann Murphy Knight S.T.A.R.S Complex beginning Monday, Sept. 18.  The satellite office will be open from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. weekdays until further notice.  The S.T.A.R.S. Complex is located at 2980 Edison Ave.

The satellite permitting office will process permits for storm-related construction and repairs. The City is waiving building permit fees for Irma-related damages.  Construction is still subject to meeting City of Fort Myers building code.

Citizens and contractors can prepare for the permitting process by visiting the City’s website: www.cityftmyers.com/188/Permits-Applications. Customers can download permit applications and find helpful checklists on the site.  Forms will also be available at the satellite office.

Those needing permits for work unrelated to Hurricane Irma should continue to request permits at the Building Division office at the City/County Annex building, 1825 Hendry St # 101.  Please be advised that hurricane-related permitting projects may receive priority over other permits.
