Paddle bits, also called spade bits, have a wide, flat blade. They are commonly used by tradesmen such as electricians and plumbers for drilling holes through studs in walls for running wiring or pipes (auger bits and hole saws are also used for this), but they also have a place in the woodshop for drilling on fine woodworking projects. An extension kit is available for the extreme jobs. It includes a 12″ extension shaft, and a bent-hex tool to securely tighten the retaining screws when the paddle bit is installed. (See image.)
Our Cobalt High Speed drill bits are made of high speed Cobalt Steel. The Cobalt content adds high abrasion resistance to the already hard working properties if our bits. Heavy web construction and 135 degree Split-Point add to the long life of these bits. Available in sizes 1/32″ – 1/2″.
These Cobalt Jobber Drill Bits are made from high-speed steel, with a 118° angle tip, and a cobalt layer finish. These bits are in Fractional size. American Wire Size bits are listed separately. Click the Jobbers tab below to see more.
The ThunderTwist’s TriCarb grade tip guarantees longer life with faster penetration due to increased chiseling action. ThunderTwist’s flute design, combined with copper brazing alloy creates the most reliable drill bit on the market. It is made with high quality American chrome-molybdenum nickel steel that is vacuum heat treated, and shot-peened for superior strength under the roughest conditions.
Spade bits are used for rough boring in wood. Spade bits are flat, with a centering point and two cutters. The cutters are often equipped with spurs in an attempt to ensure a cleaner hole. Intended for high speed use, they are used with electric hand drills. Spade bits are also sometimes referred to as “paddle bits”. Available in 1/4″ – 1-1/2″.
Countersinking screws is a often used method for ensuring a flush surface, without bumps of screwheads getting in the way. These cross-hole countersinks are specially designed so that the trailing edge of the hole makes the cut, and they excel at ejecting chips as they drill. Made of strong steel, they ensure years of precision work.
With these double end drill bits, you can work twice as long without needing to carry a second bit. No worrying about losing it before it’s needed. As the first end gets worn out, simply remove the bit from the drill, turn it around, and insert the worn end in the chuck. Then get right back to work.
